A good friend of mine asked me to do a fitness shoot with her before an upcoming competition she had at the beginning of the summer. We shot very early on a Saturday morning, in my garage, with just some studio lights and portable heater to keep it warm. Despite the somewhat cold conditions, we were able to capture some really good shots.
Almost all of our shots were taken with one off-camera strobe and one studio light for a little bit of fill light. As I mentioned, this was a fairly quite setup in my garage for this shoot. We needed somewhere that was pitch black with no outside light sources and in these type of situations I prefer to setup my studio in the garage.
I had a little bit of fun with the picture below. Kim's back was looking really shredded, so I decided to overlay some different textures to the same picture to bring out the different muscle groups that were showing. It really did a good job of giving the muscles a different look depending on the texture used, and it looked cool as well.
Black & White pictures bring out emotion much more than a color photo (IMO) Here is an example of that. Kim was stretching before a couple laps around the track for me to shoot some action shots.
